In this section I will be posting pictures of work in progress, images from around my shop and the latest news. Check by often and stay up-to-date on the latest gossip from P.H. Forge. Here are some pictures showing the stages of forging out a large bowie knife. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. |
Heating the steel prior to forging.
This picture shows the clip forged in. The clip will form the top of knife because the steel will bend upward from the stretching when the bevels are forged in.
The tip has been forged in. You will notice the prebend in the rest of blade, put in over the anvil horn.
At this point, the bevels have been forged in. I have a little too much upward bend from forging, so I will use the wooden hammer to bring it back down. This will move the shape without putting in dents.

The blade has been forged and straightened.
Finally, the handle is forged. The blade is now ready for annealing and rough finishing before heat treating.
