Here are some pictures showing the stages of forging out a large bowie knife. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Gas Forge Heating the steel prior to forging.



flating damascus This picture shows the clip forged in. The clip will form the top of knife because the steel will bend upward from the stretching when the bevels are forged in.



Burr King grinder The tip has been forged in. You will notice the prebend in the rest of blade, put in over the anvil horn.



milling At this point, the bevels have been forged in. I have a little too much upward bend from forging, so I will use the wooden hammer to bring it back down. This will move the shape without putting in dents.



hand sanding The blade has been forged and straightened.



hand sanding Finally, the handle is forged. The blade is now ready for annealing and rough finishing before heat treating.
